HP Unveils Omen Pro, but It’s Not Exactly a Gaming Laptop

HP has just unveiled the Omen Pro, which is somewhat like a “pro” variant of the regular Omen. Interestingly enough, it doesn’t have a typical dedicated graphics card for gaming. Instead, it has an NVIDIA Quadro K1100M under its hood.

Other than having a different GPU – which is more suited for professionals who make games rather than play them, the HP Omen also has a more powerful Intel Core i7-4720HQ processor in comparison to the regular Omen’s i7-4710HQ processor. Oddly enough, the PDF Datasheet for the Omen Pro shows that it can be equipped with an i7-4870HQ processor as well, although the product page doesn’t list it.

In terms of other hardware, the HP Omen Pro is essentially an Omen with a different GPU and CPU. It still has a 15.6-inch 1920 x 1080 touchscreen display, up to 16GB of RAM, a 256GB or 512GB PCIe SSD, and a backlit keyboard. It also has the same weight and thickness of the Omen at 2.12kg and 19.9mm respectively, which is plenty impressive.

The HP Omen Pro is currently available in the US starting from US$2,199 (about RM8,140) and comes installed with Windows 7 Professional. If you’re a professional who is looking for a light and slim workstation, the Omen Pro could just fit your bill.
