Mechanical hard drives are becoming less relevant these days thanks to the superior performance of SSDs, but this sexy Seagate Seven portable hard drive is definitely a looker. Unveiled back at CES 2015, the Seven is now available in Malaysia. While it won’t offer anywhere near the performance of an SSD, it will be favoured by those who prefer looks over speed.
Measuring only 7mm thin, the Seagate Seven is the world’s thinnest portable hard drive. In order to make it so thin, the company used a “deep draw process” that allows the all-steel enclosure to be shaped in a way that the material used “could not be any thinner” while still keeping a good structural integrity. The all-metal chassis also houses a very slim 5mm 500GB Angsana hard disk drive.
The Seagate Seven is actually developed to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the world’s first mass produced 5.25-inch hard drive for PCs, which was made by Seagate itself. While the Seven only have 500GB of storage space, it is a very sleek-looking hard drive, which is probably its main selling point.
The Seagate Seven is now available in Malaysia at selected retailers for RM419. More information about this thin portable hard drive can be found on its official product page.
