As part of its slew of announcements for its fifth birthday celebrations, Xiaomi has announced another new Mi TV 2 variant. If last time the company went for a smaller 40-inch version, it has now padded its smart TV range with a larger 55-inch 4K Smart TV.
Now that there’s a 40-inch variant to accompany the 49-inch Mi TV 2, what’s left is to obviously announce an even bigger Mi TV 2. The 55-inch Mi TV 2 features even more power under its hood, using the new 4K MStar 6A928 processor, which features 4K H.265 video decoding at 60fps. The processor itself has four Cortex-A17 cores clocked at 1.4GHz, while the GPU is a Mali-760 MP4 “4+2” core GPU. Inside, the TV also features 2GB triple-channel RAM (though that sounds mathematically complicated) and 8GB of eMMC 5.0 flash storage.
The new 55-inch Mi TV 2 also packs dual-band AC WiFi with 2×2 MIMO antennas, but what is likely to be a big crowd-puller is in the screen panel itself. Xiaomi is using Samsung’s 4K Ultra HD RGB LCD panel with LED backlight and 8-zone local dimming. Xiaomi uses high-end panels on the original 49-inch Mi TV 2 (LG) and the 40-inch version (Sharp), and it’s maintained its high standards with the 55-inch Mi TV 2’s display with the use of Samsung’s excellent TV displays.
Finally, like the 49-inch Mi TV 2, the 55-inch variant will come bundled with its own wireless audio system. There’s an eight-speaker soundbar and a new aluminium subwoofer that’s smaller than before, while the TV itself features the latest Dolby MS12 Virtual Surround Sound enhancements.
With a retail price of just 4,999 Yuan (about RM2,985), it’s not hard to claim that this is one hell of a machine for that price. Of course, the omission of a 3D panel may put off some (especially when the older 49-inch model has it), but we’re sure a 4K panel is more desirable and future-proof.
Like the other Mi TV 2 models, it is highly unlikely that the 55-inch Mi TV 2 will be available outside of China. But like some enterprising Malaysians here will attest, where there is a will, there is definitely a way.
