Earlier, we reported that the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge will retail for RM2,599 and RM3,099 respectively. One question that was not revealed, however, was whether this prices are inclusive of the upcoming Goods and Services Tax (GST). Those of you hoping for the best are in for a pleasant surprise, as it appears that the two prices will be inclusive of GST.
According to sources close to the matter, Samsung Malaysia will announce during the launch event on Thursday that the RRP for RM2,599 and RM3,099 for the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge respectively will be inclusive of GST. That should be good news to those who have been contemplating paying an additional RM155.94 or RM185.94 for the Galaxy S6 or S6 edge respectively when the devices are made available later this month.
However, Samsung Malaysia Electronics will not be absorbing GST for other devices launched before the Galaxy S6. This means the devices such from the Galaxy Note 4, the Galaxy A series and the low-end models will all be subject to the additional 6% GST charge come 1 April. This will make the Galaxy Note 4 (RRP: RM2499) cost RM2648.94 – more expensive than the 32GB Galaxy S6. The Galaxy Note Edge will cost more than the S6 edge as well due to GST charges, rising in price from RM2,999 to RM3,178.94.
Samsung is expected to announce the arrival of the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge to the Malaysian market this Thursday, with a special pre-order page to be available from 3 April. The official availability of the devices, however, is still a secret that will be revealed at the launch event.
