Creating a collage to post on Facebook or Instagram has just gotten a whole lot easier. Instagram recently launched a new app called “Layout for Instagram” that helps you easily create a photo collage before you share them on the social network.
Available for iOS devices right now, Layout is like your typical collage maker. Pick pictures from your Camera Roll and then select a layout option you like – Layout shows previews of custom layouts you can pick from. There’s a Faces option that shows you all the pictures you have that features people, or capture spontaneous moments with Photo Booth. Layout allows you to create a collage of up to nine pictures.
After that, you can make the usual edits like zoom in/out, and readjust the frame size. Layout by Instagram also allows you to flip and rotate your photos to create cool arrangements and mirror effects. The collage will automatically be saved into your Photos gallery, or your can share instantly to Facebook or Instagram via Layout.
So what makes Layout different from the many collage makers out there? Instagram told The Verge that it is a whole lot simpler to use. Unlike others that forces you to predetermine the number of pictures you want, Layout lets you select pictures right away, and then suggest layouts to you. Editing the collage is also very straightforward – just grab the grid lines to adjust the frame size, or swap photos in and out of different slots with just several taps. The final product will be square of course, which means it’s just right for you to share on your Instagram account.
The app is currently available immediately on the Apple App store for free, and will be available for Android devices in the coming months. Check out Instagram’s blog for more information about Layout.
