We’ve seen quite a number of “smart shoes” in the market before – a couple of years back, Google showed off a pair of talking shoe concept, and just days ago, Xiaomi and Li Ning announced a collaboration to make smart running shoes. What we have today is not one of those – instead of focusing on connectivity, fitness tracking and such, the Volvorii smart shoe (or smart heels), is more focused on style.
Made almost entirely out of e-ink display, the heel can change its appearance with just several taps. It has a tiny controller board hidden inside the shoe that offers Bluetooth LE connectivity so its wearer can control the e-ink display with a smartphone. The user can then easily change the colour of the heels from black to white, different shades of grey and even pattern.
This is definitely a very weird piece of gadget but hey, it goes to show how e-ink displays can be used even in everyday products – imagine how it would be if they used colour e-ink displays for this heel.
Interested? The Volvorii heel is currently available for backing on Indiegogo from US$249. There are also US$149 and US$199 ones, but the limit of 10 each have already been fulfilled. Will you pay close to RM1,000 for a pair of smart heels that can match almost any outfit you have?
