It seems like Xiaomi will be entering the smartwatch market as well, which is probably sparked by the recent launch of the Apple Watch. On top of that, it has been reported that the company is also planning to release an updated Mi Band.
These information were shared by Xiaomi in a recent interview with 36Krypton, a Chinese technology news website. According to the company, the smartwatch will feature a round dial along with a brushed metal design, which sounds rather premium.
Other than that, the smartwatch will also feature pulse wave velocity identification, which can potentially improve the accuracy of pulse readings and offer other health-related measurements. Although this sounds like an exciting prospect, Xiaomi has mentioned that it will not be easy to implement, although it is confident its engineers will be able to incorporate the feature anyway.
A successor to the Mi Band was also mentioned in the interview, although it’s more of an incremental upgrade than anything else. The Mi Band 2 will supposedly have a variety of designs with customisation at the core of the wearable. It will also have NFC capability along with Bluetooth and accelerometer that the first Mi Band has.
Seeing as how these are Xiaomi products after all, we can probably expect the smartwatch and Mi Band 2 to be priced competitively. An affordable smartwatch with a premium build quality sure sounds like something consumers would want.
