The long-awaited Asus Zenfone 2 has officially entered the Taiwanese market in four different variants, namely the ZE551ML, ZE550ML and ZE500CL. If you’re wondering why are there only three model numbers, that’s because the top two variants share the same name; which can get a little confusing.
First up is the ZE551ML, the top variant (or in this case, variants). This top-of-the-line Zenfone 2 has a 5.5-inch 1080p display, a 2.3GHz Intel quad-core processor paired to 4GB of RAM, 32GB of internal memory and a price tag of 8,990 Taiwan Dollar (about RM1,050). The one-tier down Zenfone 2, on the other hand, has almost the same specifications but with a 1.8GHz processor and 2GB of RAM for 6,990 Taiwan Dollar (approximately RM820).
Next, we have the ZE550ML Zenfone 2, which can be considered as the mid-range variant. It has a 5.5-inch 720p display, a 1.8GHz processor that is paired to 2GB of RAM, and a smaller internal memory of 16GB. Price wise, it is set at 5,990 Taiwan Dollar (about RM700).
Finally, there is the cheapest variant of the Zenfone 2, the ZE500CL. Instead of a 5.5-inch display, this particular model has a smaller 5-inch 720p display. It also has a slower 1.6GHz processor with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. Being the cheapest variant, it is priced at almost half the price of the top-end model at 4,990 Taiwan Dollar (approximately RM580).
In any case, DigiTimes has mentioned that the Asus Zenfone 2 will be launching in Southeast Asia sometime in April. Whether or not Malaysia is part of the plan remains to be seen.
