Alcatel has just announced two new OneTouch Idol 3 smartphones that lets you answer calls even when it’s upside down. Ever accidently placed a phone on your ear the wrong way round and thought your phone has gone wonky because you can’t hear a thing? You’ll never have the same problem with the Idol 3.
Available in two different variants, the Idol 3 smartphones have symmetrical design on the top and bottom, featuring a speaker and a mic on each end. This means that they also have dual front-facing speakers for better entertainment experience. So, why a phone that can be answered whether it’s right-side up or upside down? According to Alcatel, they wish to do something different and focus on fixing one pain point at a time, so here are two new smartphones that allows you to grab your phone out from your bag or pocket and answer it immediately.
Spec wise, the Idol 3 comes in two different variant – one with 4.7” and another with a 5.5” display. Both of them looks identical (apart from the obvious size difference of course), with a curved back and shiny plastic bezel that has brushed metallic look.
What sets these two devices apart is the hardware. The 5.5” Idol 3 has more powerful specs such as a 1080p IPS display, 64-bit octa-core Snapdragon 615 processor with 16GB of internal storage expandable up to 128GB via microSD. It has LTE-connectivity, 13MP rear camera, 8MP front camera, 2910mAh battery, NFC, and runs on Android 5.0 out of the box.
The smaller 4.7” Idol 3 has similar specs, however, instead of Full HD display, it has a 720p, and is powered by a 64-bit quad-core Snapdragon 410 processor. Other differences include a 5MP front camera and 2000mAh battery.
