It was only nine months ago that Lars-Ake Norling was introduced as DiGi’s new Chief Executive Officer but starting from 1 April 2015, the position will change hands once again. For the first time ever though, the position will be held by a Malaysian – Albern Murty, who is the company’s current Chief Operating Officer prior to today’s announcement.
A veteran at DiGi himself, Albern has been with the telco since 2002. Apart from the COO position, other senior positions that he has held during his 13 years (and counting) at DiGi was the Head of Strategy & New Business, and Chief Marketing Officer. Meanwhile, Lars-Ake will be making his way to Thailand soon to become the new CEO for dtac which is also part of Telenor Group just like DiGi.
All in all, there is no doubt that this change is rather sudden especially considering the fact that the company has just rebranded itself earlier this year. Nevertheless, we wonder if this appointment will have a huge impact on DiGi given that a Malaysian is finally heading the telco.
