Paper planes are certainly one of the easiest DIY toys out there and we are pretty sure that many of you out there have fond memories of building as well as flying some of them during your childhood. Some of you might have even competed with one another.
Well, Red Bull has apparently taken that idea and turned it into a global competition called Red Bull Paper Wings. Interestingly, Malaysia is actually part of the competition for 2015.
The Red Bull Paper Wings consists of three different categories: longest distance, longest airtime, and aerobatics. That being said, only the first two categories will be part of the Red Bull Paper Wings competition in Malaysia this year.
According to its official website, there are several qualifiers taking place in colleges around the Klang Valley starting from tomorrow at Inti International College in SS15 Subang Jaya, with the last qualifier venue being KDU University College at Glenmarie on 19 March. Winners from these qualifiers will then compete against each other at the National Finals on 22 March at the Taylor’s University Lakeside Campus in Subang Jaya.
On the line are the rights to represent Malaysia at the Red Bull Paper Wings Global Finals that will take place in May at Red Bull’s own Hangar-7 (shown above) in Salzburg, Austria which is the hometown of the world famous energy drink. Representative from more than 80 countries throughout the world will apparently be there as well to compete for the main titles.
To put things into perspective, the champion of the Red Bull Paper Wings Global Finals 2012 in the longest airtime category managed to put his paper plane airborne for 10.68 seconds. On the other hand, the winner of the longest distance outdid his competition with a mind blowing distance of 50.37 meters:
But hey, no pressure there. So, if you think your paper plane skills are good enough, check in yourself for the Malaysian qualifiers at Red Bull Paper Wings’s official website.
