When it was revealed at CES 2015 last week, Dell claimed that its new 2015 XPS 13 is the smallest 13-inch laptop in the world. Judging from what we have just seen moments ago at the ongoing Dell regional launch here in Thailand, we have not much reason to doubt that claim.
In fact, it seems like the new 2015 XPS 13 might just be the best XPS laptop to date.
By the best, we mean in terms of design. Weighing only 1.18kg, the 2015 XPS 13 is also one of the thinnest laptops in the market at only 15mm – which is just slightly thicker than a USB port. However, the wedge design means that thinnest point of the laptop is actually 9mm.
Apart from being lightweight and slim, the 2015 XPS 13’s premium design is accentuated further by the series’ signature metal finish on its lid and base. With a chassis that is made from aluminium, the area surrounding the keyboard is made from carbon fibre; again a signature trait of Dell’s XPS series of laptops.
Not to forget, the 2015 XPS 13 also features a very thin bezel on its display, apparently measuring around 5.2mm. Hence, the display gives the impression that it has no borders at all when it is seen from a distance – which is why Dell has been calling it an “Infinity Display”.
In terms of firepower, the specs varies from market to market but in Malaysia, consumers are able to equip the 2015 XPS 13 with up to the latest 5th generation Intel Core i7 processors. In addition, users can also choose to have up to 8GB of RAM, a 256GB solid state drive, and an UltraSharp QHD+ (3200 x 1800) display.
Judging from our time with the device just moments ago, the new laptop feels solid despite being considerably light and thin. Additionally, its display is also bright and vibrant although we were not able to check out its resolution and sharpness since we only managed to spend a fleeting few minutes with it. Nevertheless, the lasting impression we have on this gorgeous laptop is that it really is a sight to behold.
The new 2015 Dell XPS 13 is readily available in Malaysia with a starting price tag of RM 3,599.
