When a “Kids” category was first added to the Apple App Store back in 2013, it made it a whole lot easier for parents to discover new apps for their kids of various ages. Now, Apple is expending that with a new “Games for Kids” sub-section.
Like the Kids section, Games for Kids has got three sections catered for children of different age group – 5 and under, 6 to 8, and 9 to 11. Whether or not children should be exposed to a mobile device has been a long debated topic, which is why Apple is featuring a free book called “Family Time with Apps” in this new section to “help parents better understand the variety of ways that apps can support children’s healthy development and family learning, communications and connection”.
A lot of games and apps made for kids of young age have good restrictions to prevent them from making accidental in-app purchase. However, to be safe, check out our previous post to see how to restrict your app and in-app purchases from the App Store. Getting a refund isn’t that troublesome, but it’s always easier to just prevent it than getting a bill shock when you check your credit card bill to discover your child spent US$50 on an in-app item.
