Heroes of Might and Magic 3, one of the best turned based strategy games from 1999, is returning with a new High Definition edition. Return to Erathia after 16 years, and this time it can be done on a mobile platform; as Ubisoft is bringing it to both Android and iOS as well.
This release follows on the trend of releasing fan favourite games with updated graphics for a new audience. While most of the original releases can still be found on sites like GoG.com, the lackluster graphics tend to turn off newer gamers from giving them a try. Putting the game on tablets should also help the game find a new audience.
One thing to note is that this was still published by Ubisoft, which hasn’t gained all that much good karma from gamers since the Assassin’s Creed Unity debacle; although it has done much better with the PC release of Far Cry 4. That being said, a poster on Reddit has pointed out that Ubisoft’s promotional art that compares the old graphics to the new HD ones is a little misleading.
For anyone who thinks that Ubisoft won’t screw this one up since it’s just a simple port, Heroes of Might and Magic 3 HD Edition will be launching on 29 January; and the pre-order is already available on Steam for RM49. The Android and iOS versions will be appearing after on launch day itself for an unknown price.
