Microsoft has released a preview version of Office for Android, and it is now free for download. Just about everyone can get in on it, although the preview is currently only working on selected tablet sizes. The preview is meant to gather more feedback about the current build, although most of the features should be working.
To participate in the preview the user should be running either Android 4.4 Kitkat or 5.0 Lollipop on a tablet with a display size between 7- and 10.1-inches. Microsoft’s blog post also notes that it should be an ARM based tablet, although there really shouldn’t be a reason that it won’t work with an Intel chipset.
Interestingly, the Office preview is broken up into Word, Excel, and Powerpoint. Allowing users to try out the apps that they are most likely to use. Naturally, this is a preview and users should be doing any important work with it, or treat it as a free way to get Office. It will be unstable at times and the experience will be less than polished.
Anyone interested in joining the preview can download the Word, Excel, and Powerpoint apps from Google Play.
