The Firefox powered smart TVs will be appearing on the market this year, a whole year after the partnership between Mozilla and Panasonic was announced. The HTML5 based operating system will run on the new models of the Life+ 4K TVs due out this spring.
The initial partnership was announced back in CES 2014, as Mozilla began a wider attempt to expand the Firefox eco-system. While the Firefox based smartphone didn’t fare too well with reviewers, the Firefox TV OS shouldn’t be too bad.
Panasonic showed a short demo of the interface, which looks quite simple and easy to navigate. It will also allow for the playing of content from SD cards, which is unusual for a TV. Despite the demo, there are still no details about the products themselves and the manufacturer has not announced any pricing either.
