Apart from the new XPS 13, Dell has also announced two new Alienware laptops for 2015 in the form of Alienware 15 and 17. Surprisingly, Dell claimed that both laptops are actually lighter and more than 20% thinner than their predecessors despite having the same overall physical design. What gives?
Well, it turns out that both laptops are built using carbon fiber composite material which enables them to “slim down” but that being said, they are not exactly what you can refer to as a thin laptop with the Alienware 15 and 17’s thickness are listed as 34 mm and 34.4 mm respectively. Additionally, they also weights around 3.201 kg and 3.780 kg respectively.
While they are still stuck with 4th generation Intel Core i5 and Core i7 processors at the moment, customers are able to choose the latest GPUs from AMD and NVIDIA for Alienware 15 and 17. As a standard, the Alienware 15 is equipped with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 965M (aha!) while Alienware 17’s standard GPU option is NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970M.
Interestingly, both laptops come with the support for Alienware Graphics Adapter which not only allows them to utilize more powerful desktop graphics card but will also automatically overclock Core i7 processors within them. Apart from that, users also can choose to have touch display on their Alienware 15 and 17 laptop although the touch display on Alienware 15 has a resolution of 3840 x 2160.
Other top notch components that are also equipped into Alienware 15 and 17 are Creative Sound Core3D-EX audio processor and Klipsch speakers as well as Gigabit Ethernet, WiFi and Bluetooth adapters by and Killer Networks. As per previous Alienware laptops, users can expect to see plenty of lights zones throughout both Alienware laptops that can be customized through a pre-installed software.
In terms of pricing, the Alienware 15 starts from USD 1,199 (RM 4,280) onwards while the Alienware 17 goes from USD 1,499 (RM 5,350) in United States. No words on their availability in Malaysia at the moment though but we’ll let you know if that changes in the near future.
