As expected, ASUS has also unveiled the new ZenFone 2 as its CES 2015 press briefing which is the continuation to its highly popular ZenFone line of smartphones. Still powered by Intel Atom processor, the new ZenFone 2 doesn’t come in as many variations as per its predecessor though.
In fact, the ZenFone 2 has only one display size this time around, which is 5.5 inches. That being said, consumers are still given the option to choose processors, amount of RAM, and internal storage size that they like to have on their ZenFone 2.
Specifically, the ZenFone 2 can be equipped with either 1.8GHz Intel Atom Z3560 or 2.3GHz Intel Atom Z3580 64-bit quad-core processors. In addition to that, the device also features up to 4GB of RAM and 64GB internal storage. There’s also support for microSD cards to further increase storage space.
The ZenFone 2’s 5.5-inch full HD display itself is an IPS panel with a pixel density of 403ppi. At the back, the device features a 13-megapixels camera that comes with 5-element F2.0 lens and dual-color Real Tone flash. Interestingly, ASUS has decided to position the device’s volume key underneath its rear camera instead on either of its sides, making it look similar to LG’s line to flagship smartphones.
The smartphone is also equipped with a 5-megapixel front camera which features an 85-degree wide angle lens. Just like the original ZenFone series, the company’s PixelMaster technology is also present on the ZenFone 2 camera but its low-light mode can now be used on the device’s front camera as well. For those who are adventurous enough, they can even opt for manual mode to fine tune individual settings for the ZenFone 2’s camera.
The smartphone is also equipped with fast charging capability that enables users to charge its 3000mAh battery from zero to 60% in 39 minutes. Apart from that, it is also a dual-SIM active smartphone with support for 150 Mbps LTE Cat 4 networks.
Being an ASUS smartphone, the ZenFone 2 comes pre-installed with the latest iteration of ASUS ZenUI on top of the device’s Android 5.0 operating system. This particular version of the user interface apparently features several new functionalities such as ZenMotion, SnapView, and browser integration with Trend Micro security. Additionally, users are also able to customize many aspects of the interface including themes, fonts, icons and more.
To be available in March, the new ASUS ZenFone 2 carries a price tag that starts from US$199 (RM 708). However, we have yet to receive any information regarding its availability in Malaysia at this moment.
