Will 2015 be a year for luxury watch makers to join the whole smartwatch trend? Tag Heuer has recently been rumoured to be working on a smartwatch and will debut in CES 2015 happening in Las Vegas next week, and now, “A Blog to Watch” reports that Montblanc recently announced a strap that can make its existing luxury watch smarter.
Called an “e-strap”, it is actually a wrist strap for the Montblanc Timewalker Urband Speed collection of watches that features an extra module at the end of the strap. It can provide the usual smartwatch features like keep track of the wearer’s activities, as well as provide notifications, music controls, remote camera trigger and more. Of course, it’ll need to pair with a smartphone (compatible with iOS and Android via Bluetooth), in order for it to work.
As with all Montblanc products, the strap is made out of luxury materials – high-end leather strap known as “Extreme Montblanc Leather” that is produced in Florance, Italy, while the electronic module is made from DLC (diamond like carbon) coated steel.
The e-strap will be available as an optional accessory for €250 (about RM1,060), while the watch ranges from €2,990 to €4,690 (RM12,670 to RM20,000). Anybody have about RM20,000 to spare for a luxury smartwatch?
