Seems like Google’s Project Ara, the company’s attempt at a modular smartphone, will not be released this year in Puerto Rico as planned. Instead, it is now slated for a 2016 release. If you’ve been looking forward to getting your hands on this neat little device, you’d have to wait a little longer (unfortunately).
“Lots of iterations… more than we thought.” That’s what the team behind Project Ara has to say regarding the delay. While the unexpectedly long prototyping phase isn’t exactly a good thing, at least we know Google is hard at work to make Project Ara a reality. After all, if a delay is all it takes to ensure that the modular smartphone will be perfect from launch, many would agree it’s worth the wait.
Other than announcing the delay, Google mentioned that Project Ara will not be launched in Puerto Rico anymore. Instead, it is “looking at a few locations in the US” for the launch. As far as a global launch is concerned, however, nothing has been mentioned yet.
Beyond the 2016 launch date, no other information were provided by Google. Hopefully, Project Ara will be launched in the first half of 2016 (rather than the second half).
