If you’ve been waiting for the “successor” to the Sony Xperia Z3, you might not have to wait much longer; we have spotted the Sony Xperia Z3+ in SIRIM’s database. More likely than not, Sony Malaysia is gearing for a launch very, very soon.
Even though it’s technically a successor to the Xperia Z3, the Z3+ does not differ much from it. At least, in terms of design. Under the hood, however, the Z3+ gets a few notable upgrades. It now has a 5.2-inch 1920 x 1080 resolution display, the controversial Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor paired with 3GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, IP65 and IP68 ratings, 20.7MP rear and 5MP front-facing cameras, and a modest 2,930mAh battery.
Sony’s decision to use the now-infamous Snapdragon 810 processor is a point of concern for many people. It didn’t take long before report of an issue with the Xperia Z3+ made it to the Internet, such as the camera overheating and subsequently shutting down. Of course, thanks to the IP65 and IP68 ratings of the device, it can be easily cooled by soaking it in a tub of water, but that’s hardly an appropriate long-term solution.
As always, a device appearing in SIRIM’s database does not necessarily mean that it will be launched here. It is, however, a positive sign. We’ll keep an eye for an official invite from Sony Malaysia if and when the Xperia Z3+ is launched here.
