Honor Malaysia has opened registration for owners of the Honor 6 who wish to be a beta tester for Emotion UI 3.1, which is based on Android 5.1 Lollipop. This is a rather unique opportunity for users of the Honor 6 to experience the new update before anyone else; even before owners of the Huawei P8 and P8 Lite.
Interestingly, although the Huawei P8 and P8 Lite are running on Emotion UI 3.1, it is only based on Android 5.0 Lollipop. This upcoming beta test for the Honor 6, on the other hand, will be based on Android 5.1. While the jump from Android 5.0 to 5.1 is pretty incremental, it is nice nonetheless to be running on the latest update.
Oddly enough, this beta test is only open to owners of the Honor 6, although the Honor 6 Plus is technically a “newer and better” flagship. Then again, it’s entirely possible the user base for the Honor 6 is much more than the former device, seeing how it has been in the market longer than the 6 Plus. In any case, since the beta test for Emotion UI 3.1 is rolling out, we might see the final update hitting other Honor devices in the near future.
If you own an Honor 6 and would like to be a beta tester for Emotion UI 3.1, sign up here before the 6th of July 2015. Beta testers will then receive the update on the 7th of July 2015. Needless to say, this beta programme will be suited for more tech-savvy users, although nothing is stopping “regular” users from trying it out as well.
