As of late, virtual reality and 4K gaming are two trends that are receiving growing attentions from the gaming industry. Other than that, the new DirectX 12 graphics API which promises substantial improvement on performance and efficiency is something that gamers might have interest in since it is part of the upcoming Windows 10.
As far as NVIDIA concerned, these are the future of the gaming and the newly announced GeForce GTX 980 Ti is designed to cater all these new frontiers right now.
Crafted using the same GM200 GPU as per NVIDIA’s current top of the line model, GTX TITAN X, the new GTX 980 Ti is positioned between TITAN X, and the previously released GTX 980. Specifications-wise, this is how the new GTX 980 Ti looks like when compared to both graphics card:
As shown above, the GTX 980 Ti seems almost identical to GTX Titan X but with lower amount of CUDA cores and texture mapping units as well as half of Titan X’s RAM. While the previously released GTX 980 might be running at faster clock speed than GTX 980 Ti, the latter has more CUDA cores, faster texture fill rate, RAM, and higher memory bandwidth.
But how these numbers translate into performance? Based on the figures provided by NVIDIA, the GTX 980 Ti seems to be able surpass the class-equivalent (but aging) AMD Radeon R9 290X quite significantly at 4K resolution:
With the arrival of GTX 980 Ti, NVIDIA has reduced the price of GTX 980 to USD 499 from its launch price of USD 549. This is how the line-up for GeForce GTX 900 series now looks like alongside their current base price tags:
GTX TITAN X: USD 999 (RM 3,655)
GTX 980 Ti: USD 649 (RM 2,375)
GTX 980: USD 499 (RM 1,826)
GTX 970: USD 329 (RM 1,204)
GTX 960: USD 199 (RM 728)
While the actual Malaysian pricing for the card might be different depend on specific models and manufacturers, expect the new GTX 980 Ti to be available through your favorite retailers very soon. Do keep a note that Batman: Arkham Knight is included with a purchase of GTX 980 Ti, in case you planning to get your hands on the card later.
