Meizu has given an official release date for its new flagship device: the MX5. To be unveiled on the 30th of June 2015, the MX5 will feature a metal body and a rumoured price tag of 1,799 Chinese yuan, which comes up to about RM1,085. If it does retail at that price, the MX5 is one flagship device to look out for.
Unfortunately, there is not much official information from Meizu on the MX5 other than a release date and a metal construction (which is only implied, really). There are, however, rumoured specifications of the upcoming smartphone. The MX5 is said to have a 5.5-inch 1920 x 1080 resolution display, a MediaTek MT6795T 2.3GHz octa-core processor paired with 3GB of RAM, a 20MP rear camera (which is conflicting with an earlier rumour of a 41MP camera), and an adequate 3,150mAh battery.
The rumour did not specify how much internal memory the Meizu MX5 would have, but it did mention that the flagship device will feature a microSD card slot that can accommodate cards up to 128GB. Interestingly, the MX5 is also rumoured to be packing a Samsung processor, but seeing how MediaTek has invested in Meizu, it’s highly unlikely the MX5 will be powered by an Exynos processor.
Meizu will be launching the MX5 on the 30th of June 2015 in Beijing. It will be interesting to see if the official retail price will be set at 1,799 yuan. After all, the Chinese company is offering the Meizu M2 Note at an extremely competitive price of 799 yuan (about RM480).
