It has been quite some time ever since the Asus Padfone S entered the Malaysian market, but it seems to have received a pretty hefty price cut recently. Retailing for below RM800 now (without the PadStation, of course), the Padfone S is a very attractive smartphone for consumers who are on a budget.
When it was first launched in Malaysia, the Padfone S was going for RM899. The PadStation, on the other hand, went for RM499. At the time of writing, they are now retailing at RM777 (that’s RM122 worth of saving) and RM446 (RM53 price cut) respectively from none other than DirectD.
In terms of specification, the Asus Padfone S boasts pretty respectable hardware. It has a 5-inch 1080p Super IPS+ display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor paired with 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, a microSD card slot that can accommodate cards up to 64GB, and a rather small 2,300mAh battery. Other hardware include a 13MP rear camera, a 2MP front-facing shooter, and LTE connectivity.
What makes the Padfone S particularly unique is the fact that it can be connected to the PadStation to turn it into a tablet. The PadStation is equipped with a 9-inch 1920 x 1200 resolution display, a 1MP front-facing camera, and a 4,990mAh battery.
The new retail prices for the Asus Padfone S and the PadStation above are now available from DirectD. Other resellers are also selling the Padfone S below RM800, although DirectD seems to be offering the lowest price at the time of writing.
