Xiaomi’s first global smartphone, the Mi 4i, has finally landed in Malaysia. After its global launch in India late last month, Xiaomi’s impressively pushed out the device to its South-East Asian markets this month – and the Mi 4i is set to go on sale in Malaysia next week.
One of Xiaomi’s most impressive products to date, the Mi 4i packs a striking amount of hardware for its price. Boasting a second-generation Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 1.7GHz octa-core processor developed exclusively with Qualcomm India, the Mi 4i also features 2GB of RAM – but only 16GB of internal storage with no microSD card slot.
However, the display is an impressive 5-inch Full HD IPS display by JDI with Sunlight Display technology – Xiaomi claims this not only increases its usability under bright sunlight, but also makes it up to 30% more power efficient.
The rear camera retains the more expensive Mi 4’s 13MP f/2.0 Sony IMX 214 camera sensor, but instead of the Mi 4’s six-element lens, the Mi 4i features a five-element lens. In front, there is a 5MP f/1.8 shooter with Xiaomi’s new Beautify “selfie-enhancing” algorithm.
Wrapped in a matte white polycarbonate unibody, the Mi 4i has a very generous 3,120mAh battery within its 7.8mm chassis. This 130g device is also the first Xiaomi phone to run on MIUI 6 based on Android 5.0 Lollipop. Finally, the Mi 4i is also a dual-SIM, dual-LTE smartphone which supports virtually all LTE bands globally.
The Mi 4i is priced at RM749 (inclusive of GST), which is similar to the retail prices in India and Singapore, among others. Xiaomi will hold its first Mi 4i flash sale on 28 May 2015; Xiaomi will also be holding its first anniversary sale on that day – more info to follow.
