Xiaomi’s recently concluded fifth anniversary Fan Festival turned out to be more successful than it hoped. The 2.11 million phones sold within 24 hours set a new Guiness World record, and this was cause for even more celebration. This extra celebration involved Xiaomi president Bin Lin stripping down to his boxers in public.
Bin Lin was joined by several other unidentified Xiaomi employees as he jogged along the streets wearing shorts, long socks, and shoes; while carrying placards announcing the new record. We expect that it was only China’s public decency laws that prevented Bin Lin and his cohorts from going completely bare for what can only be described as a victory lap. Notably missing was Xiaomi vice president Hugo Barra, although there has been no press statement from the company about the event.
We have to admit that Bin Lin is in great shape for a man of his age, as the pictures posted to the Xiaomi Facebook show. One can only assume that the collection of bright orange socks worn by the Xiaomi group is also part of a secret unreleased product line.
Xiaomi has made huge progress as a manufacturer over the past couple of years, and even Apple would struggle to match the feat of moving over two million phones in just 24 hours. This success has eaten into the market share of other Android smartphone makers like Samsung, who have seen their profits plummet since the arrival of the Chinese technology giant.
Now that it is expanding into other devices and electronics, it is only a matter of time before Xiaomi finds other things to celebrate. Although any future parties will be hard pressed to match the sheer shock value of this particular occasion.
