If you were disappointed that Sony did not announce its Xperia Z4 flagship smartphone during MWC earlier this year, well don’t be because the device is now official. Sony Japan has just announced the Xperia Z4 that looks very similar, but packs upgraded hardware under its hood.
On the outside, the Xperia Z4 looks very similar to the Xperia Z3 with a 5.2” Full HD display, a polished aluminium frame, and a glass front and back. However, it is much slimmer than before, measuring at only 6.9mm slim compared to 7.3mm on the Xperia Z3. It is also much lighter too, weighing about 144grams. Like the Xperia Z4 Tablet that was announced earlier this year, it has a cap-less USB port so you no longer have to deal with little flaps just to charge your phone.
On the inside, the Xperia Z4 now packs the latest hardware in the market right now. It is powered by a 64-bit octa-core Snapdragon 810 processor paired with 3GB of RAM. The internal storage has also been bummed up to 32GB or 64GB, and is still expandable via the microSD card slot.
Camera wise, the Xperia Z4 still features a 20.7MP main camera, and a much improved 5MP front camera (Xperia Z3 has a 2.2MP front camera). Sony says that it has improved the camera app and added in new camera functions such as selfie mode, AR mask, “Premium Random Auto mode”, cooking mode and such. Other specs include Android 5.0, 2930mAh battery, and LTE connectivity.
The Sony Xperia Z4 will be available in Japan later in the year in four colours – black, white, copper and aqua green. Sadly though, Sony did not announce when they will be launching in the international market, so keep your fingers crossed that you won’t have to wait for too long.
