Matt Stopera from BuzzFeed lost his iPhone one night at a restaurant to only find it one year later – well, sort of. Nonetheless, it’s a life-changing experience which made him a celebrity in China.
Matt lost his phone back in February 2014 at a bar in New York city. Someone swiped the phone and sold it off to another unsuspecting buyer. Upset, he bought a new iPhone and connected to his old iTunes account, only to find selfies and pictures he has never taken. After the speculating was done, Matt published a story about this and all parts of the internet helped Matt find this ‘Brother Orange’ guy – that’s what they’re calling him.
Next thing you know, Matt left for Meizhou, China on the 18th of March 2015 to meet the now-famous Brother Orange. The two spent nine whole days together, bonding and getting to know each other from this unexpected and estranged encounter. The duo did everything from having meals together, touring China, having mud baths, attending press conferences (yes, press conferences). Not to mention all the autograph signings and selfie requests Matt has gotten.
After all that went on in China, it was time to leave. Both of them bid goodbye and the two of them were sincerely disheartened at the thought of separating. To read the full Orange Bromance story on Matt’s journey in China with Brother Orange, you may do so here.
