Update: All Apple services that were down are now up and running. The outage – which lasted several hours late last night – was due to an internal DNS error, according to Apple’s official statement.
Having trouble connecting to the Apple App Store or iTunes Store? You are not alone and it most definitely isn’t your internet’s problem. Apple admits that the stores are currently down at the moment for “all users”.
According to Apple’s Services, Stores and iCloud system status update, most of its online stores like the App Store, iTunes Store, Mac App Store and even iBooks Store are all “unavailable for all users”. If you try to download or update any apps at the moment, you’ll be greeted with an error messaging saying that your device “cannot connect to” the respective store.
Fortunately, the stores are not completely down. You can still browse around and even view videos from individual apps, but you won’t be able to download anything, even if it’s a free app.
According to the detailed timeline, the problem started at about 5pm. For the first three hours, even Apple’s iCloud services like Mail and Account & Sign In were affected. The iCloud services have been restored and the problem is only affecting the store services.
The Cupertino company did not mention anything about when the problem will be fixed, so I guess all we can do now is just wait.
