Xiaomi is reportedly working on a plastic variant of the Mi 4. Dubbed the Xiaomi E4, it will allegedly have the same specifications of the Mi 4 aside from a smaller RAM size of 2GB rather than 3GB. If the E4 does eventually materialise as a Mi 4 in a plastic body with a competitive price to match, it might just be the right phone for many consumers.
If you think a plastic variant of Xiaomi’s flagship device sounds very familiar to what another Taiwanese company has been doing for quite some time now, you’re not alone. The HTC One E8 is basically the plastic variant of the HTC One M8. Xiaomi is even using the same ‘E’ moniker for the plastic Mi 4. Too close to be a coincidence?
In any case, if the Xiaomi E4 will in fact have the same specifications of the Mi 4 (other than the smaller RAM size), we’re looking at a 5-inch 1920 x 1080 IPS display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 quad-core processor clocked at 2.5GHz paired to 2GB of RAM, a choice 16 or 64GB of non-expandable internal storage, and 13MP and 8MP rear and front cameras respectively.
The Xiaomi E4 will reportedly carry a price tag of 1799 Yuan, which is approximately RM1,060. However, the real question is: will Xiaomi bring the E4 to Malaysia, or will it share the same fate as the Mi 4?
