Announced around three months ago, the Vivo X5Max is now officially available in Malaysia. Boasting a very thin body of only 5.08mm, it is one of the slimmest Android smartphones currently available in the market. Vivo did not sacrifice much either to achieve such a thin dimension with the X5Max, although the version that we are getting is slightly different from the Chinese variant.

As it turns out, the Vivo X5Max for the Malaysian market is slightly thicker at 5.08mm in comparison to the Chinese variant’s thinner 4.75mm body. This sacrifice was made in order to fit in a bigger 2,300mAh battery inside of the X5Max, which seems like a fair trade.

Other than a bigger battery capacity, the X5Max for the Malaysian market is no different than its Chinese variant. It still has a 5.5-inch 1920 x 1080 Super AMOLED display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 octa-core processor paired to 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, 13MP rear and 5MP front-facing shooters, and Vivo’s Funtouch OS 2.0 based on Android 4.4.4 KitKat out of the box.

On top of that, the X5Max also has a standard 3.5mm headphone jack which other thin smartphones such as the Oppo R5 omitted in order to cut down on its thickness. The X5Max also has a microSD card slot that supports cards up to 128GB, which will prove to be useful for users who need more storage space.

The Vivo X5Max is now available at Vivo stores in Malaysia at a retail price of RM1,799. Although the X5Max for our market is 0.33mm thicker than its Chinese variant, it does have 300mAh of extra battery juice. Depending on who you ask, this might be an acceptable compromise.
