Also known as the SM-G388F, the Galaxy Xcover 3 is the third iteration to Samsung’s Xcover lineup. It has just been announced by Samsung, and the Korean giant is aiming it at those who live life on the edge. Living up to its name, it boasts mid-range hardware with a tough and durable body to boot.
The Samsung Galaxy Xcover 3 complies with both the military standard MIL-STD 810G and the IP67 rating. This means that the phone can withstand drops from 1.2 metres and is resistant to dust, and water for up to 30 minutes in a metre of water. Not only that, it is resistant to salt, humidity, and thermal shocks, making it a truly tough device to undergo the harshest of situations.
The device sports a 4.5-inch WVGA display with a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels. Under the hood, the Xcover 3 will be running on a 1.2GHz quad-core processor coupled with 1.5GB RAM. It has 8GB of internal storage and a microSD card slot for expansion up to 32GB as its maximum capacity. It has a 5MP camera on the rear with support for underwater shooting mode and a 2MP front-facing camera. In terms of connectivity, the phone supports LTE, NFC, GPS as well as Samsung’s KNOX security feature. It also has a 2,200 Li-polymer battery to power the device.
As for its design, the phone has a weight of 154g and the chassis measures in at a 9.95mm thickness. Samsung has decided to keep the standard Android physical keys like the home, multitasking and back buttons. Although, the device also features a special Xcover key to turn on the flashlight, or a double tap to launch the camera. It runs on Android KitKat 4.4 with an upgrade to Android 5.0 Lollipop scheduled.
Samsung’s Galaxy Xcover 3 will make an appearance at CeBIT. Set to be released in April, the device is expected to be sold at the price of around 275 Euros (about RM1074).
