The new U Mobile iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus bundles does indeed look very promising. Its new iPlans offers the cheapest option in the market starting from RM40 a month, and comes with plenty of data, suitable for today’s users. But how do the new plans stack up against the big 3 telcos who have been offering the iPhone for many years now? Check out our price comparison after the break.
The prices above are based on the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus postpaid plans displayed on the respective telco’s websites as of 17 March 2015. Maxis has already revised its iPhone 6 prices to reflect the new retail price from Apple so it looks more expensive, while Digi and Celcom are still displaying the old prices. As for U Mobile, as a launch promotion, the telco is offering the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus based on the older retail prices. This will change at a later date.
What makes U Mobile different from the rest is that although these plans comes with a 24-month contract, U Mobile offers “total contract freedom”. This means that should you terminate the contract, you will not be subjected to any penalty fee at all. Instead, all U Mobile requires is that you refund to them the subsidy fee depending on the months left in your contract. For example, if you have 10 months left in your i60 contract for a 64GB iPhone 6, all you need to do is refund the telco RM150 (10 months x RM15 a month) – that’s only RM2,290 for a 64GB iPhone 6 compared to the RM2,549 retail price from Apple (before price revision because U Mobile is offering their iPhones at the cheaper rate).
Here’s a breakdown of how individual plans between the major telcos compare to each other:
Of course, as a new player in town, U Mobile has got a bunch of attractive offers to lure customers over. Maxis, Digi and Celcom are more traditional. With U Mobile now offering iPhones in Malaysia, let’s hope the next-generation iPhone will bring more competitive offerings to us Malaysians later this year in terms of bundled packages from the Big 4.
Check out our previous post to find out more – you can also purchase the new iPhones with an instalment plan from U Mobile called U MicroCredit. What do you think about U Mobile’s new iPhone plans?
