It’s been quite some time since we’ve heard of anything from Oppo, and just when MWC 2015 has ended, a global launch date for the Oppo R1C has been announced. Oddly enough, outside of China, Oppo will be calling it the Oppo R1x instead. Other than a slightly different name, the R1x should be identical to the R1C.
Unveiled in China back in January, the Oppo R1x features a very unique sapphire glass back that seems to reflect light in various angles, giving it the appearance of a very premium device. Oppo achieved this through UV embossing of the layer underneath the glass.
Specification wise, the R1x is powered by a Snapdragon 615 octa-core processor clocked at 1.5GHz with 2GB of RAM, which puts this device in the upper mid-range of Android smartphones. It also has a 5-inch 1280 x 720 LTPS display, 16GB of internal storage, a microSD card slot that supports up to 128GB, 13MP rear and 5MP front cameras, and ColorOS 2.0.1 that is based on Android 4.4 KitKat.
Other noteworthy features include a 2420mAh battery that is fitted inside a 6.85mm body – which makes the R1x a pretty slim smartphone. It also has dual-SIM support and LTE connectivity. Surprisingly, even though it has a sapphire glass back, the R1x only weighs 130 grams, which is pretty impressive.
The Oppo R1x should make its worldwide debut sometime in April in two choices of colour: Sapphire Blue and Ice White. No retail price has been given yet, but expect it go for around 2,499 Yuan (about RM1,455), which is its asking price in China.
