If you’re a big fan of stock Android and is currently on the fence about getting the Nexus 5 or the newer (and more expensive) Nexus 6, you’d have to make your decision pretty quickly now. The Google Store – a new web store for Google’s devices – no longer have the Nexus 5 listed.
Of course, this doesn’t really affect us Malaysians as we cannot purchase from the Google Store in the first place anyway. On top of that, the Nexus 5 is not even available here officially. So then, why should we care?
Well, if you’re a fan of stock Android devices (myself included), you’d know that the Nexus 5 is one of the cheapest smartphone in the market that is running on stock Android. Now that the smartpone is no longer available from Google, it can be assumed that Google’s supplies for the Nexus 5 has ran out and it will no longer be restocked. It’s highly like then the smartphone has been discontinued.
So how does this affect the availability of the Nexus 5 in Malaysia? Basically, once grey importers here do not have the Nexus 5 in stock any more, that’s it. So if you’re still on the fence about getting the 2013 Nexus flagship before stocks are depleted, it’s high time to make your decision.
Alternatively, you could get the much more expensive Nexus 6, which hasn’t been released here officially yet even though it has appeared in SIRIM’s database.
