A couple of days ago, pictures of a bezel-free device from Oppo started to make its round around the internet. If you think that it’s a fake and the pictures were doctored, here’s a video demonstration that might makes it a little more believable.
The video shows the device’s music and video player in action. Watching videos on a device with almost zero bezel actually looks really good and a little futuristic.
Touted as the Oppo R7, the device isn’t exactly bezel-free. Instead, the company is relying on a new bezel technology that tries to hide as much of its bezel as possible, resulting in an edge-to-edge screen.
According to Oppo’s patent, the device uses a standard rectangular display. However, there is a special element on the edge that can be projected on to make the bezel look like it’s part of the display. This means that Oppo does not have to change any manufacturing process to make a “bezel-free” device, keeping cost low.
The result of this patent? A device that looks too good to be true, but since we’re already seeing pictures and videos of it, it looks like the final product might be on its way.
