It’s been months since Xiaomi first took the curtains off its MIUI 6 based on Android KitKat, so when will we finally get to use it on our Xiaomi devices? The Chinese company shares more on its MIUI 6, along with its Android Lollipop plans, and it looks like things are already in progress and you wouldn’t have to wait too long for it.
First up, Xiaomi says that the rollout of MIUI 6 will be available for most of the company’s devices depending on the chipset support, and the rollout will be on market to market basis. They did not announce any firm date, but Xiaomi says that the migration exercise is expected to complete by the first half of 2015. The MIUI forum recently called for 100 Beta testers in Malaysia, so let’s keep our fingers crossed that it’s for the MIUI 6.
As for Android 5.0 Lollipop update, the development for MIUI 6 based on Android Lollipop has already started.
“The migration from MIUI 5 to MIUI 6 happened around the same time as Android 4.4 to Android 5.0. We can’t change the foundation and renovate the house at the same time.” – Hugo Barra, Vice President of Xiaomi Global.
Well, at least we know that it’s in the works. Let’s hope it won’t take too long for Android Lollipop to be ready. If you really can’t wait, you can always download the updated Google Now launcher that gives you a taste of Lollipop on any Android devices running on Android Jelly Bean and above.
