As promised, Microsoft today has revealed more information regarding its upcoming Windows 10 operating system through a special press event at its campus in Seattle. One of the first thing that company has revealed at the event is that the new operating system will be made available as a free upgrade for Windows 7 and 8.1 users.
Not only that, Windows Phone 8.1 devices will receive the free upgrade as well. It is also stated during the event that the free upgrade to Windows 10 will be available for the first year after it goes into the market and once the device is upgraded to Windows 10, the operating system will continue to be updated without any additional cost for the supported lifetime of the device.
While this pretty much confirmed what we have heard few months ago, things are still rather vague at this moment especially in terms of device requirements and user’s eligibility although we do know at the moment that the free upgrade offer is not available for Windows 7 Enterprise, Windows 8/8.1 Enterprise, and Windows RT/RT 8.1. We’ll keep you posted once we receive more information from Microsoft.
