Cortana is officially headed to Windows 10, and she appears to be a direct transplant from the Windows Phone version. Microsoft’s AI assistant will perform the same tasks she currently does for mobile users, like taking notes, setting reminders, and making calls.
Microsoft’s corporate VP Joe Belfiore demonstrated how much Cortana has figured out, as he had her tell him the weather, predict the Superbowl, set a reminder, and take a message. Cortana will also recognise symbols for imput such as knowning to use a “#” instead of writing out “hashtag”. Also, Microsoft decided to include the option to get Cortana to speak in Yoda’s voice.
Most of Cortana’s information is tied to Bing, where internet searches will attempt to retrieve the results asked for. Cortana will also learn from user behaviour and, like in the mobile version, will store it in a “Notebook” for users to view.
Unlike the mobile version, the new Cortana will be able to work on top of other applications; allowing users to multitask between taking notes and other things. This should increase the use of Cortana, although how it seems a little distracting if people are constantly asking their AI assistant for things while at work.
Cortana will gradually roll out over the next few months, with more countries being added to the list as well. With any luck, Malaysia may actually get official Cortana support.
