As teased, Kodak (yes, the camera brand) has just taken the curtains off its first ever smartphone – the Kodak IM5, at the on-going CES 2015. Made by Bullitt, a company that specialises in rugged phones, the IM5 runs on Android, and the main focus of the device lies on the camera.
Don’t expect some fantastic camera technology though, the aim of this device is to provide users an easily usable camera phone who don’t want a high-end flagship phone. It’s equipped with a 13MP rear camera and a 5MP front camera that The Verge notes, can take very good pictures in tough lighting conditions though, they come out rather pale. Kodak wants to make it easier for consumers to share and print out their pictures too with big “print” and “share” buttons right on the interface.
Hardware wise, the IM5 features a 5” 720p display at the front, and is powered by an octa-core processor, though, Kodak did not mention the exact chipset used. It will run on Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box, and will be updated to Android 5.0 Lollipop at a later date.
The Kodak IM5 will be available in Europe b the end of March and will roll out globally later this year for a retail price of €229, that’s about RM970. Anybody here fancy getting an Android phone from Kodak?
