Samsung has unveiled two new “ring” speakers in its product lineup: the WAM6500 and WAM7500. Seeing as how these ring speakers are so similar to sentry guns from Portal 2, we wouldn’t be surprised if these speakers awaken at night and start shooting at us.
Developed in Samsung’s new audio lab in Valencia, California, these speakers incorporate something that the company calls “Ring Radiator” technology that enables sound to flow in a 360-degree arc, which is capable of “filling an entire room with sound.” According to the company, this allows the speakers to strike a balance between bass and treble.
We know how much people love music and that’s why we are expanding our portfolio to bring high-quality, wireless audio into the home. With the new WAM7500/6500 people can enjoy a vibrant sound wherever they are.
– Jurack Chae, Senior Vice President of Samsung Electronics
According to Samsung, these ring speakers utilise “premium materials across the exterior of the speakers,” so expect to pay a premium for these. The WAM7500 (above) is marketed as the Stand-type model, while the WAM6500 (below) is dubbed the Movable-type model by the company.
Samsung will be divulging more details regarding these ring speakers at CES 2015 next week. We can expect retail pricing and availability to be announced during the event.
