In order to aid our country during this flood disaster, Airbnb has activated its disaster response tool. From 29th December 2014 to 12th January 2015, Airbnb will waive its service fee for those who are affected by the flood.
Airbnb activates its disaster response tool whenever an area is affected by a natural disaster which sends an email to hosts in the affected area asking for their help. Hosts can then offer their extra space to those in need for free, while Airbnb will also not charge their own fees for all locations in the affected area.
It seems that this offer extends as far as to Selangor as well, but the service fee will only be waived for those who are offering their space for free. This is probably Airbnb’s method to ensure that only hosts who are sincere to help flood victims will be able to get this offer.
This disaster response tool by Airbnb was actually inspired by the community when Hurricane Sandy hit New York in 2012. Shell, a host on Airbnb, offered her space for free in order to help victims of the hurricane, and as many as 1,400 Airbnb hosts then followed suit.
For those who are looking for a place to stay due to the flood situation can click here to start searching. Hosts who would like to offer their place for free can also do so by clicking on the link.
