Square-Enix revealed additional details about the upcoming Final Fantasy XV, including the existence of Malaysian mamak culture, at Comic Fiesta over the weekend. Lead designer Wan Hazmer and producer Hashimoto Shinji were both in attendance at the anime convention where they also showed a technical demonstration of an NPC making teh tarik.
Malaysian Hazmer confirmed that the game will partly feature Malaysian food as part of its Southeast Asian influence. A preview video not only showed off the teh tarik animation, but also scenes with satay and the protagonists lounging around enjoying a plate of roti canai. While none of this will have any impact on gameplay, it adds a layer of world building that helps with immersion.

New gameplay elements were also confirmed such as the day/night cycle and the requirement of characters needing to sleep to maintain maximum fighting efficiency. Players will also need to sleep and camp out in order to level up.
Summons will also be part of the game, but nothing much has been revealed about what they might be. The only detail is that the Titan from the trailer will be a primary summon, but will not be included in the demo. Although that may not matter because the FFXV demo is only available to those who pre-ordered the first printing of Final Fantasy Type-0 HD, which isn’t that many people.
Hazmer and Hashimoto concluded their presentation with an announcement that Square-Enix is hiring and are looking towards Malaysia for new talent. Which is probably a good thing for aspiring game makers who want to work on a triple A title.
