The Guardians of Peace, the hackers responsible for the attack on Sony Pictures, is apparently getting into the holiday spirit and is asking the internet to make requests about the next round of information to be released. The GOP are also preparing to release even more information about the company that it says will “put Sony Pictures in a worse state”.
After releasing emails, movies, studio notes, and even social security numbers, it is difficult to imagine what else there is for the hackers to reveal. That being said, new information appears to indicate that they had been lurking in the Sony Pictures network for a long time before setting off the malware that erased the entire system. The terabytes of data stolen would have taken a very long time to download, and it is unknown how long the hackers were observing Sony Pictures.
These hackers have also promised to not release personal information about Sony employees if they are willing to email the GOP requesting that their data be kept off the lists. Whether the hackers are actually willing to uphold their end of the bargain is unknown. This simply be another ploy to keep people guessing as to their true identity by playing up the social awareness aspect of their actions.
While the identity of the GOP is still unconfirmed, there are signs that point to North Korea as the culprits. Especially with the demands that a movie involving Kim Jong Un be pulled from released.
