Few PlayStation owners complain about having to subscribe to PlayStation Plus for access to multiplayer content, and it is easy to see why. Subscribers received games worth US$1349.29 over the course of the last 12 months, which is a whole lot more than they are paying for the service.
Of course this number comes with a couple of caveats. One would be that it presents a total amount of games for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PS Vita; which means that only those who own all three consoles would benefit from the total amount. Only owning either the PS3 or PS4 would easily cut that number by half.
There is also the issue of having to continue to subscribe to retain access to these games, although that is not entirely a problem are subscriptions are the only way of engaging in online multiplayer. While the idea of having to shell out every month to access a portion of the game that many already bought for the full price may seem exploitative, at least PlayStation is cushioning the blow with these freebies.
However, it should be noted that not all these free games on PlayStation Plus are extremely desirable. Some, like Batman Arkham Origin and Borderlands 2 are must play titles on any platform; while giving away The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth may have disappointed some subscribers.
Despite the lack of triple A titles in the PlayStation Plus freebies in the last few months, subscribers can’t really complain at the value that they have received. A free game is still a free game.
