You know how painful it is to take out your phone to snap a video only to discover that you’re running out of space? Dropbox has just given its Carousel app an update that will help you delete photos that it’s already backed up, so you can have more storage on your phone to record all the videos and snap all the pictures you want.
You won’t have to worry about Carousel deleting the wrong photos, according to Dropbox, there’s an algorithm for that and it will perform several safe checks before deleting your precious pictures and videos. Each photos has its own unique identifier and Dropbox will match those numbers, and delete those on your phone that has been already backed up. Carousel is now even smart enough to consider that if you are not extremely low on storage space, it will leave the last 30 days of photos on your phone, just in case.
This is both good and bad news. Good for those of you who has 16GB of non-expandable storage on your phone, but bad for those of you who have limited data on your mobile. Sure, you can always have it back up your photos only when you’re on Wi-Fi, but when you’re on the go and you wish to look back at some old photos, the only way to do so is to load up Carousel and browse through everything till you get what you want. If it’s any consolation, Carousel does have a very nice interface and can sort your pictures based on date, time and event so searching for an old photo should be relative easy.
The update is rolling out for Android users starting today while the iOS version will be released some time next week. With this and a much more affordable storage plan, are they enough to convince you to move all your photos and videos to the cloud?
