The inaugural Game Awards concluded over the weekend as the video game industry recognised the best work done by developers, publishers, and even fans. Most of the winners were expected to win, although Nintendo has appeared to continue its resurgence by being named Developer of the Year.
Nintendo has had a surprisingly good 2014, especially if one ignores the lackluster performance of the Wii U. Games like Mario Kart 8 and Pokemon Omega Red/Alpha Sapphire have breathed new life into the Nintendo 3DS; not to mention the introduction of a new version of the handheld console.
What made the show interesting was the inclusion of awards for eSports personalities and teams, recognising their contributions to the industry. Matt “NaDeSHoT” Haag was names eSports Player of the Year, while Ninjas In Pajamas won eSports Team of the Year for their recent overcoming of odds at DreamHack Winter.
Unsurprisingly, TotalBiscuit was named the Fans’ Choice of Trending Gamer; beating the ever popular PewDiePie.
