One of the fastest growing company in the tech industry would definitely have to be Xiaomi, which is why Forbes Asia has just awarded Lei Jun, the CEO of the company, 2014 Businessman Of The Year. Founded four years ago, Xiaomi only started their global expansion about a year ago, but has already taken the Asian markets by storm.
According to Forbes Asia, Xiaomi is now leading a worldwide revolution in bringing affordable devices to billions of hands. They have awarded Lei Jun the 2014 Businessman of the Year for making such an impact in the mobile phone industry.
Xiaomi’s products are currently only available in the Asian markets, but according to some research reports, they have already soared their way to the third biggest smartphone manufacturer in the world. In China alone, Xiaomi is outselling the bigger players like Apple, taking the number one position with a projected 60 million sales this year, double of last year’s total.

As expected, Lei Jun told Forbes Asia that his plans is to expand the company beyond Asia. Since he founded the company, his goal has always been to make it a global one, hence, bringing in Hugo Barra, a former Vice President in Google, in August last year. Whether or not Xiaomi would make it in the western market is still unknown, but one thing’s for sure, Xiaomi is doing very well currently and I’m pretty sure we’re all happy that we can finally get quality handsets at a much, much more affordable price than before.
Check out Forbes for an in-depth look into Lei Jun’s profile, and how, at the age of 45, he is the eight-richest man in China, worth a whopping US$9.9 billion.
