The PlayStation 4 20th Anniversary Edition was announced late yesterday, and now we know why it took so long to announce the availability of the machines. While there are 12,300 units being made, only 18 will be arriving in Malaysia. It won’t be available in stores and potential customers must enter a contest and win the right to buy one.
Details of the contest were revealed in an announcement made during a press conference at Anime Festival Asia in Singapore earlier today. It will run from today until 21 December, with the console itself being made available on 23 December. To enter, contestants must post either a video or picture that relates to the 20th anniversary of PlayStation to Instagram with the hashtag #PS20MY.
Winners will be determined by a combination of likes on Instagram and selection from a panel of judges from PlayStation. A PlayStation Plus 3-Year Membership and some unspecified PlayStation 20th Anniversary Limited Premiums will also be thrown in along with winning the purchase pass.
All 18 units to be sold in Malaysia are subject to the contest, although other countries in the Southeast Asian region will also be holding similar events. Curiously, the contest is to buy the limited edition PS, and not to receive it as a prize. For more information, visit the official PlayStation 20th Anniversary page.
